The collection consists of a scrapbook constructed by Norman Matthews. The scrapbook contains ticket stubs from boxing matches, autographs and photographs of famous boxers (including Max Baer, Sonny Liston, Joe Louis, and James J. Jeffries), 1888-1960. The collection also includes an explanatory letter (dated June 19, 1963), and newspaper articles concerning Norman Matthews.

John Lawrence Sullivan was born on October 15, 1858 in Roxbury, Massachusetts to Irish immigrant parents. Nicknamed the “Boston Strong Boy”, Sullivan began to box professionally in 1878. He was a heavyweight champion whose boxing style was reliant on brute strength, fighting under the London Prize Ring Rules (bare-knuckle boxing).
